The original idea was born out of dis-satisfaction of the braking systems that were available for karts in the early 1970's. Derek Barnett and his partner Malcolm Richardson had already built a successful engineering company and Dereks son had recently started kart racing. Unhappy with what was on offer at the time, the first Kelgate brake was born.
Today the product range includes all running gear such as axles, wheel hubs,
sprocket carriers and complete front stub axle assemblies along with the most
sought after brake systems in karting and it doesn't stop there.
Recently developments have seen the company evolve once again to new premises
where the original attention to detail during assembly and test is continued
by skilled craftsmen.
Ongoing research and development remains a corner stone in the companies activities
with new ideas and new products being created.
